Radio Data Archives

The NRAO Image Gallery provides a heretofore unavailable collection of digital picture representations of radio data for the primary use of the general public, educators, planetariums, amateur astronomers, science centers, etc. We realize that professional astronomers may be more interested in direct access to the data used to make the images, rather than the picture representations themselves. There are professionally maintained astronomical data archives which do archive astronomical data, including radio FITS images. Specifically, the NASA Extragalactic Database (NED) and NCSA's Astronomy Digital Image Library (ADIL) both contain significant amounts of radio data in FITS format.

The NRAO presently maintains an archive of all past VLA observation. We are also developing prototypes for pipelined data reduction and archiving pipelined data and FITS images as part of the End-to-End (e2e) effort.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage astronomical users to submit their datacubes and final images to one of the above archives. If they also submit picture representations of the data to the NRAO Image Gallery, we will gladly include a link to the archived data.
